Conditions of entry: No entry if sick or showing COVID symptoms. Limit of 25 people in the centre.

The EMC COVID plan includes the conditions of entry advertised on site, at the door and around the centre.

The Early Morning Centre (EMC) is a safe, respectful space with friendly people. We provide food, essential services, support and community activities, focusing on individual needs.

We serve a free hot breakfast weekdays from 7.30am to 8.30am. We then reopen from 9.00am to 2.00pm for the Community Hub.

We are located in the Canberra City Uniting Church building at 69 Northbourne Avenue, Canberra City.

All pets are welcome; please have dogs on a lead and cats in a carrier.
You’ll need a written referral which we can provide you.

There are no eligibility conditions, all are welcome to use this service.

Please note: breakfast only between 7.30am and 8.30am. Other services are available during Community Hub hours, 9.00am to 2.00pm.

Service expectations

Service expectations relate to the Early Morning Centre (EMC) and surrounding area.

Acceptable conduct for all guests, staff and volunteers is behaviour based on respect, for oneself, other people present, and the physical environs of the EMC.

Physical assault, swearing, yelling, verbal abuse, sexual harassment or damage to person or property are not acceptable behaviours in the EMC. Staff and volunteers are not expected to tolerate slurs of a racial or sexual nature and have a right to feel safe in their working environment.

Other behaviours that are not acceptable are illegal activities such as drug use and/or exchange. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted in the EMC, either inside the premises or in the outside area that forms part of the EMC and the Canberra City Uniting Church.
